I like to work alongside you to talk and plan the ceremony that is perfect for you.  Remember, your ceremony legally requires only one sentence from you both! However I am here to help you to create a memorable day that celebrates your love and commitment to each other in front of family and friends.

When we first meet, we will get to know each other a little, and we will discuss how you would like to work with me to develop your ceremony.  I will talk to you about the legal aspects, and whether you want readings and music. There are many many options for those.  We will talk about your vows to each other - whether you write them yourselves, or find some in other places. I have examples of vows and readings that I can share with you.  I will give you all the information you need about applying for your marriage licence - something I can't do for you.  You can apply for it up to three months before you get married, from the Department of Internal Affairs.

I will meet with you as often as we need to do, as we firm up your ceremony. I will ask if I can send you some questions to answer about your decision to marry, so that I am better informed as I fashion your ceremony. I will check with you to see if you have organised the marriage licence.

The afternoon before the wedding we can organise a rehearsal for you and the wedding party. We can go through the whole ceremony or we can simply note where people will walk and stand, and make sure they all know what they are doing.   It is often a chance for me to meet your family - something I really enjoy doing as it gives me an even better idea of your wishes.

On the day I will arrive an hour or so before the starting time to check that everything is in place and that we all know what we are doing.  Sometimes we need a Plan B for where the ceremony happens if it is planned for outdoors and the weather is not kind.

After it is over I will send your paperwork in to ensure you are properly legally married!

Charges:  I charge $500 for the services listed above.  If significant travel is involved I may add some travel expenses.

My husband and I chose Jan to be our celebrant after attending my both my sister's and cousin's wedding both of which she officiated. We were taken by her warmth and how she managed to create a relaxed atmosphere and sense of mood appropriate to the occasion. We now call her our 'family celebrant' and I'm sure our family will require her services again at some stage. We would not hesitate to recommend Jan as a celebrant to anyone wishing to have a memorable occasion.

Michele and I had been together for over 10 years when we decided to get married and we wanted a small and very personal wedding. Jan took the time to really understand us and our relationship so that she could put together a ceremony that would have real meaning for us. On the day she calmed my wedding wobbles when we had to change plans because of the weather and gave me that quiet confidence that it would all turn out just as we wanted all the same. She brought humour, wisdom and love with her choice of words and her readings. We feel very lucky that Jan was able to marry us and make the ceremony all the more special for all those years of building up to it!  Kim & Michele
